The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award (MUA) Streamer represents a distinguished Department of the Air Force unit award recognizing organizations for exceptionally meritorious conduct, outstanding achievement, or outstanding service in direct support of combat operations.
Established in March 2004, the Meritorious Unit Award recognizes qualifying Air Force Active Duty, Reserve, and Air National Guard units for exceptional performance in direct support of combat operations on or after September 11, 2001.
To qualify, a unit must demonstrate outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks that clearly distinguish it from other units performing similar missions. The degree of achievement required for the Meritorious Unit Award is comparable to that required for an individual award of the Legion of Merit.
The award generally recognizes exceptionally meritorious conduct performed for at least 90 continuous days during military operations against an armed enemy of the United States. Service does not necessarily have to occur within a combat zone, but it must be directly related to the combat effort.
The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award Streamer is designed for display on authorized Air Force organizational flags and guidons, providing visible recognition of the organization's distinguished service and officially awarded unit honors.
