Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Streamer
The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Streamer represents exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement by a United States Air Force organization.
Originally established as the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA) on January 6, 1954, the award recognizes numbered units whose collective performance clearly distinguishes them from other organizations performing similar missions.
Award Criteria
The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award may recognize an organization for:
- Exceptionally meritorious service
- Accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance
- Combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States
- Military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by an opposing foreign force
The accomplishments of the organization must clearly distinguish the unit from similar organizations and demonstrate performance significantly above that normally expected.
The award recognizes the combined efforts of the entire organization, rather than the accomplishments of an individual member.
Streamer Design
The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Streamer consists of the following symmetrical stripe pattern:
Red – White – Blue – White – Red – White – Blue – White – Red
A Red stripe forms the center, with White and Blue stripes arranged symmetrically on each side and Red stripes along the outer edges.
The authorized inscription is embroidered in White.
The inscription displayed on the streamer corresponds to the officially authorized award period or designation documented for the organization.
