Army Civil War Campaign Streamer
The Army Civil War Campaign Streamer represents U.S. Army campaign participation and military service during the American Civil War, fought from 1861 through 1865.
The Civil War played an important role in the development of the Army's campaign streamer tradition. During the war, Army organizations embroidered the names of battles directly on their organizational colors. This practice eventually evolved into the campaign streamer system used by the U.S. Army today.
The Civil War Campaign Streamer is equally divided Blue and Gray, representing the opposing forces of the Union and Confederacy. On streamers displayed by the U.S. Army, Blue is displayed on top and Gray on the bottom. Units whose official lineage includes service in the Confederate States Army display the streamer with Gray on top and Blue on the bottom.
The authorized campaign inscription is displayed according to the organization's official Lineage and Honors.

Army organizations authorized Civil War campaign participation credit display the appropriate streamer according to the unit's official Lineage and Honors.
Units with Confederate States Army lineage use different inscriptions for three campaigns: FIRST MANASSAS instead of Bull Run, SECOND MANASSAS instead of Manassas, and SHARPSBURG instead of Antietam.
