Army Valorous Unit Award Streamer
The Army Valorous Unit Award Streamer represents extraordinary heroism and gallantry displayed by a United States Army organization while engaged in military operations against an armed enemy.
The Valorous Unit Award (VUA) is one of the U.S. Army's highest unit decorations. It recognizes units whose collective performance demonstrated extraordinary heroism in combat. The degree of gallantry required for the Valorous Unit Award is equivalent to the degree of heroism that would warrant the Silver Star Medal when awarded to an individual.
The Valorous Unit Award was established during the Vietnam War following a review of the Army's unit awards program. Army leadership determined that an additional unit decoration was needed to recognize extraordinary combat heroism below the level required for the Presidential Unit Citation. The proposed Valorous Unit Award was approved by the Chief of Staff of the Army on January 12, 1966.
Streamer Design
The Army Valorous Unit Award Streamer uses the same pattern as the Silver Star Medal ribbon.
The streamer consists primarily of Ultramarine Blue with a Red center stripe bordered by White stripes and additional narrow White stripes on the Blue field.
The authorized action, geographic location, or period of service is embroidered in Yellow on the streamer.

Award Criteria
The Valorous Unit Award recognizes extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy.
The collective degree of gallantry demonstrated by the organization must be equivalent to that which would warrant award of the Silver Star Medal to an individual.
The award recognizes the collective combat performance of the organization rather than the actions of a single Soldier.
Army organizations awarded the Valorous Unit Award are authorized to display the appropriate streamer on their organizational colors or guidon in accordance with applicable Army regulations.
