Army Mexican Expedition Campaign Streamer
The Army Mexican Expedition Campaign Streamer represents U.S. Army campaign participation during the Mexican Expedition of 1916–1917, also known as the Mexican Punitive Expedition.
The campaign followed the March 1916 raid on Columbus, New Mexico, by Francisco “Pancho” Villa and his forces. In response, the United States organized a military expedition under Brigadier General John J. Pershing to pursue Villa and his forces in northern Mexico.
Approximately 10,000 U.S. Army troops participated in the expedition, including cavalry, infantry, field artillery, engineers, and supporting organizations. The campaign also represented an important period of transition for the Army, with extensive use of cavalry alongside emerging military technologies such as motor vehicles and aircraft.
The Mexican Expedition Streamer is Yellow with a Blue center stripe and a narrow Green stripe along each edge.
The Green and Yellow colors are historically associated with ancient Mexico. The Blue center stripe represents the United States Army and also refers to the Rio Grande, which forms part of the international boundary between the United States and Mexico.
The authorized inscription MEXICO 1916–1917 is embroidered in White.
